In the early stages of Ian Taylor Trekking, we worked with a range of charity organizations. They would gather clients and bring them to us as the participants raised funds for charity. Honestly, we needed butts in seats.

While I thought people were paying for their own trips and then raising funds for charity, I learned this wasn’t always the case. In reality very little of the money raised was going to charity or more specifically going to the actual need.

This model, while well-intentioned, began to create the wrong kind of incentive. It encouraged some people to view these trips primarily as a way to access a lower-cost adventure, rather than fully engaging with the deeper purpose behind them. Over time, we recognised that this approach risked shifting the focus away from meaningful impact and toward transactional travel.

We made the decision many years ago to stop running these supported treks because we believe giving back should come from a genuine place. Not as a trade-off for a discounted trip, but as a conscious commitment to the communities we visit. For us, it was important to realign with our core values: creating powerful adventures while fostering authentic, long-term support for education, healthcare, and local development.

Today, our approach is different. We encourage people to trek not for a cheaper holiday, but to be part of something bigger, where the motivation to give back is personal, intentional, and lasting.

No Wages

After years of seeing stories about funds being misused or lost to overheads, we made a very deliberate decision: to build a foundation that operates without wages. This may chance when we are no longer part of the journey, but as long as we are managing this there will be no wages.

We didn’t want a model where donations were absorbed by salaries, administration, or layers of cost. Instead, we wanted to ensure that every dollar, every effort, and every step taken on our treks could go directly toward making a real and lasting difference in the communities we support.

By removing wages and keeping overheads to an absolute minimum, we’ve created something simple but powerful, an approach where impact comes first. It means that when you support us, you can be confident that your contribution is going exactly where it’s needed most: education, healthcare, and community development.

We also understand that raising awareness is essential. Many organizations invest heavily in marketing and promotion, but we’ve chosen a different path. We believe in organic growth—built on trust, shared values, and a community of people who genuinely care about making a difference.

That’s where you come in

If this resonates with you, we would truly appreciate your support in helping us grow this mission. Sharing this page with your network, whether on LinkedIn, Facebook, X, or simply through conversations, can have a powerful ripple effect. The more people who understand what we’re trying to achieve, the greater the impact we can have together.

This is how we believe change happens—through people, through connection, and through a shared commitment to something bigger than ourselves.

A Quarter Century of Adventure

After years of seeing stories of donations being diluted by overheads, salaries, and administration, we made a conscious and deeply personal decision—to build a foundation where none of that exists.

We didn’t want even a small part of someone’s generosity to be lost along the way. When people choose to give, it should mean something. It should reach the people who need it most. That’s why we’ve committed to operating with no wages and minimal overheads—so that every contribution, no matter how big or small, has a direct and meaningful impact.

This isn’t about running an organisation. It’s about doing what’s right. It’s about respect—for the communities we support and for the people who trust us enough to give.

We know awareness matters. We know growth matters. But we believe the most powerful way to grow is through people who genuinely care—people like you.

If this speaks to you, we would be incredibly grateful if you shared this with your network. A simple post, a conversation, a recommendation—it all helps. Because when more people understand the mission, more lives can be changed. This is how we create real impact. Together.

Why an Endowment Matters

When Covid-19 brought the world to a standstill, we all felt its impact. For us, it meant 18 months without work—a difficult period that affected everyone in different ways. But while the world was focused on its own struggles, something far more devastating was unfolding quietly in Tanzania.

For years, a man in Switzerland had been supporting a small orphanage—ensuring children had a safe home, food on the table, and a chance at a better life. He never sought recognition. He simply gave, consistently and selflessly.

In 2020, he lost his life to Covid-19. And just like that, the funding stopped. Without support, the orphanage was forced to close. The structure that had protected those children disappeared. They were left vulnerable, scattered, and at risk. Everything fell apart. But in the middle of that crisis, one person stepped forward.

Our head guide in Tanzania and a close friend refused to let those children be forgotten. He took immediate action, bringing them into a home, providing safety, and doing everything he could to rebuild what had been lost. It wasn’t easy. It still isn’t. But he made a decision to stand up when it mattered most.

Today, it takes over $20,000 a year just to house, feed, and support those children.

Across all the communities we work with, the need is even greater—over $150,000 each year to continue supporting thousands of children and families with access to education, care, and opportunity.

This is why we are building an endowment fund.

An endowment would mean stability. It would mean these children are never again left vulnerable because funding disappears. It would mean long-term, sustainable support—year after year—without uncertainty.

This is where you can make a difference.

Do you know someone who believes in creating lasting change? Someone who wants their contribution to go beyond a single moment and instead protect futures for years to come? If you do, we would love to connect.

Because no child should lose their home because support runs out. And together, we can make sure that never happens again.

Just Impact: Where Every Dollar Makes a Difference

We exist for one reason: to create real impact in the communities that need it most. No waste. No layers. Just results. Our model is simple, and that’s exactly why it works.

With no wages and minimal overheads, every dollar you give goes further. It goes directly into education, healthcare, and community support where it’s needed most.

This means more children in school.
More families with access to care.
Communities with real opportunity.

Not someday, right now. Donate today!

In a world where many organizations lose impact through costs and complexity, we’ve chosen a different path. One built on transparency, trust, and measurable results. And if you’re looking for a way to make your contribution go further, mean more, and create lasting change, this is it.
